Race hate graffiti investigated

Police are investigating the daubing of Nazi symbols and racist graffiti in the Village area of south Belfast.

Swastikas and racist slogans were daubed on a bridge along the Donegall Road.

South Belfast Alliance MLA Anna Lo said Village residents were disgusted at the racist graffiti which "has no place in our society".

"This type of behaviour must be stamped out. The Village area is moving forward positively," she said.

"We want to show the world that this place is welcoming to everyone - we want to show the world that Northern Ireland is open for business."

Local Ulster Unionist councillor Bob Stoker described the graffiti as "despicable".

"The people in this community are in no way associated with this - they are working very hard to promote a new image for this community and the people here will be absolutely disgusted as well," he said.
