Driver set alight in robbery bid
Ulsterbus Goldliner
The driver was splashed with flammable liquid
A bus driver has escaped injury after being set alight by a passenger in Portrush, County Antrim.

It happened when the driver stopped his Ulsterbus Goldliner at Ballywillan Road, Portrush, on Friday night.

Before leaving the bus the man demanded money and when the driver refused he poured liquid on him and set him alight, damaging his clothes.

Translink's Linda Shannon said that staff and passenger safety was of "paramount importance".

"We thoroughly condemn this mindless act of anti-social behaviour, thankfully the driver has not been hurt but he has been very shaken by the incident," she said.

She said the company would work with police in investigating the incident.

His attacker is described as having very short hair and was wearing jeans and a stud earring.
