Paul McKay hopes to be lifting the University Challenge trophy
A student from Belfast is bidding to become a University Challenge champion when he captains his team in the final of the television quiz.

Architecture student Paul McKay, from the Falls Road, leads Sheffield University against Christ Church.

Paul, 24, a former pupil of St Mary's on the Glen Road, was chosen as captain after a university-wide audition.

In April 2004, Freya McClements, from Castlerock, led a Magdalen College, Oxford, team to victory.

While at school, Paul took part in the televised BBC quiz programme, Schools Challenge, which his team won in 2001.

The University Challenge final will be shown on Monday on BBC2 at 2000 GMT.
