Anti-sectarianism fund announced
Dermot Ahern
Mr Ahern said one million euro would be made available
The Irish government has announced the creation of an anti-sectarianism fund.

Irish Foreign Minister Dermot Ahern, who is on a visit to Belfast, said one million euro would initially be made available.

"It is essential that progress in this area is consolidated by addressing the divisions which continue to keep communities apart," he said.

"Of the challenges facing us, the battle against sectarianism is among the most pressing."

Grants will be given to individuals, or organisations, looking to develop new projects that will challenge intolerance and sectarianism.

Mr Ahern also met Lord Eames and Denis Bradley, the co-chairs of the Consultative Group on the Past, during his one-day visit to Belfast.

Speaking before the meeting, Mr Ahern said he was disappointed at the IRA's indications that it would not meet with the group.
