Fake IDs prompt pub age increase
Teenager with bottle of alcopops
The pubs say they had no other option
A number of pubs in Londonderry are raising their age limit from 18 to 21 in a bid to keep out under age drinkers using sophisticated fake IDs.

Last weekend more than 60 young people were caught using fake IDs at one licensed premises in the city.

Brendan Duddy Jnr, of the well-known Derry pub, the Strand bar, said they had no other option.

"We decided to go to over 21 because the IDs are just too good, too high quality," said Mr Duddy.

"It really isn't possible to combat the younger people who've got IDs and everything else.

"You're looking at someone and it says that they are 18 but they may only be 16."
