A policeman has been dragged along for 15 metres by a car being driven off to evade a police patrol.

Officers tried to flag down the car on Bell Steel Road in west Belfast at about 1230 GMT on Friday, police said.

The driver refused to stop, and dragged along the policeman who had tried to open a car door. The officer suffered minor injuries.

The car was stopped a short time later on Stewartstown Road. A man in his 40s is being questioned about the incident.

A passenger in the car fled the scene. Two children under the age of 10 in the car at the time were not injured.

Another policeman hurt his wrist when the car struck him as the driver tried to evade the patrol. Police have appealed for witnesses.
