Shirt factory jobs blow for city
Shirts
Glenadden Shirts is located on Trench Road in Londonderry
Eighty-five jobs are to be lost at a shirt factory in the Waterside area of Londonderry.

The workforce at Glenadden Shirts on the city's Trench Road is to be reduced to 30.

Gareth Scott from the trade union Unite described news of the job losses as a "devastating blow".

"They (the staff) were possibly expecting an announcement for a small number of redundancies," said the trade unionist.

"But this is a major announcement with major redundancies.

"It will bring the staffing level down from 115 to 30, so it's major downsizing and obviously it's come as a major shock to staff."
