The air controllers' overtime ban could cause flight chaos
|
Flight delays and disruption could be caused because of an overtime ban by Dublin Airport air traffic controllers, authorities have warned.
The controllers claim they are being overworked and have to work continuous overtime to keep flights on schedule.
They said that from Thursday they will work only their contract hours.
Impact, the controllers' union, said there had been a "staff shortage and inadequate recruitment since the 9/11 attacks in the USA".
The union claimed it would be at least 2009 before additional staff will have completed their training.
Meantime, the controllers want the airport authority to advertise abroad.
Some flights were delayed by up to 15 minutes on Thursday but there were warnings that the situation could get worse over the coming days.
