A man and a woman have been injured in an assault in County Down.

The victims both suffered serious injuries after they fell or "were forced to fall" about 10ft onto rocks beyond a seafront wall in Kircubbin.

Both of the victims are in their 20s and from the village. Another man in his late 20s suffered injuries to his face and was also taken to hospital.

The attack happened shortly before 0300 GMT on Saturday, a police spokesman said. One man has been arrested.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them.
