A 31-year-old man has been charged with attempting to murder a man in south Belfast on New Year's morning.

The 22-year-old victim was standing with friends in University Road when he was stabbed in the stomach sometime between 0130 GMT and 0145 GMT.

A 45-year-old man held in connection with the attack is still being questioned.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or has any relevant information to contact them.
