Translink gets 'golden bull' gong

The transport company has picked up a 'Golden Bull' award
Translink has been given an award by the Plain English Campaign for its apparent lack of just that ... plain English.

The transport company picked up a 'Golden Bull' award for a sign at Coleraine train station about delays caused by fallen leaves on the tracks.

Passengers were told not to worry as it is "committed to minimising service delays by implementing a comprehensive low adhesion action programme."

Despite this mouthful, Translink - in a relatively jargon-free statement - said it is "committed to providing passenger information which is easily understood".

'Opportunity'

A spokeswoman added the company viewed its latest award as "an opportunity to review future communications and adopt plain English where possible".

The Plain English Campaign annually gives awards to public bodies who insist on saying quite simple things using very complicated language.

Also among this year's other recipients were former England football boss Steve McClaren, who received a 'Foot in Mouth' award for his puzzling description of Wayne Rooney.

He said of the Man Utd star: "He is inexperienced, but he's experienced in terms of what he's been through."
