Factory workers in fear for jobs
Arntz protest
Workers protested at the Arntz factory last year
About 170 workers at Arntz Belting in Londonderry fear their jobs will be transferred to a similar factory in Romania.

They were speaking after a planning application for housing at the Pennyburn plant was put in a local paper.

Last year, workers at the factory, which makes fan belts, went on strike in a row over redundancy payments.

In 2005, about 30 jobs were lost at the factory

The parent company, Arntz Optibelt, also has a plant - A&M Belting - at Letterkenny in County Donegal.

The Arntz Optibelt group employs about 1,200 employees around the world.
