Nothing toxic was found in a white substance recovered after a house party in Waterford where two men fell critically ill, Irish police have said.

Fifteen people were taken to hospital after the 21st birthday party in the Ballybeg estate early on Sunday.

Three remain in hospital, two men in their 20s are seriously ill.

Speaking on RTE, Superintendent Dave Sheehan said the white substance did not contain a horse tranquiliser and nothing toxic was found.

He could not comment further as a 25-year-old man is in custody in connection with the incident.

The three people are being treated at Waterford Regional Hospital.
