Victim dies after weekend assault

A 20-year-old man has died in hospital two days after he was assaulted in Dungannon town centre.

Donatas Velicka lived at the Willows in the town but was originally from Lithuania.

He was beaten up at about 0045 GMT on Sunday outside an off-licence in Scotch Street, and police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

Detectives have begun a murder inquiry, and two men, believed to be Lithuanian and aged 20 and 22, remain in custody.

A 17-year-old youth who was also being questioned has been released without charge.

Mr Velicka was able to run away after being attacked but he was chased and assaulted again.

He was severely injured and placed on a life-support machine in hospital, but died on Tuesday afternoon.
