Eight arrested in dissident raids

Eight men have been arrested in connection with dissident republican activity in the north west of NI.

Police said a number of items were recovered after house searches in Londonderry and Strabane.

During a further search of Magirr Park in Strabane, police uncovered a suspicious device component part for pipe bombs.

The area will be cordoned off overnight for the safety of the public, said the PSNI.

Seven of those arrested on Wednesday are understood to be from Strabane and one from Derry. All were arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

They have been taken to Antrim PSNI station for questioning.
