Poots at GAA council conference

The MLA said his attendance could be seen as controversial
Culture Minister Edwin Poots has attended the GAA Ulster Council's conference at an east Belfast hotel.

The DUP MLA told the audience his attendance could be seen as controversial after his decision not to introduce Irish language legislation.

"The Irish language is important to many GAA people and I will do nothing to inhibit you enjoying it," he said.

"But that may be a different issue when it comes to spending significant amount of money on passing legislation."

Mr Poots also said the GAA should examine how Protestants in Northern Ireland could be encouraged to embrace gaelic sports.
