Murdered teenager was strangled

A murder investigation is under way after the death of a teenage Swiss student whose body was discovered in County Galway.

The 18-year-old girl had been strangled. Her body was found on waste ground near Lough Atalia on Tuesday.

Manuela Riedo had travelled to Ireland last weekend.

She arrived in Galway on Saturday where she had intended to take up an English studies course at the Galway Language Centre at Bridgemills.

Ms Riedo had been staying at accommodation in Renmore.

Her family is flying to Ireland from their home near Berne in Switzerland.
