Anti-skimming equipment is being installed by the bank
Bank of Ireland is to install new security equipment on all its 160 external cash machines in Northern Ireland to combat card skimming.

The bank said it was investing £250,000 in the measures.

The new anti-skimming technology will not be visible to users but works electronically to block the devices that are used by criminals.

It is being provided by a Northern Ireland company, Risk Management Solutions.

Paul Hoy, of Bank of Ireland Northern Ireland, said: "Finding new ways to combat fraud is a priority.

"We have now secured a solution which prevents criminals from electronically gathering information from customers' cards when using our ATMs."

Mr Hoy said all of the bank's external ATMs in Northern Ireland would be fitted with the new technology by the end of September.
