The party claimed the army had placed the devices in the grounds of St Jarlath's Church in Blackwater Town.

Sinn Fein said wires, microphones, receivers and battery packs had been found by couple out for a walk.

On Thursday night the party put the electronic listening equipment on display.

'No room for complacency'

Speaking on BBC Radio Ulster, Sinn Fein assembly member for Fermanagh-South Tyrone Michelle Gildernew said the matter was "very serious".

"I don't think anybody can be dismissive about this and it's a very clear indication that the British Army is still at war with the nationalist people.

"I don't think that we can be blase about this at all. It's the first time such listening devices have been found at a chapel and i think we need to be very cynical about why it was put there.

Michelle Gilldernew: the find should not be dismissed
"I feel that this shouldn't be seen in isolation.

"Given the sophistication of this device, there was no way they were carrying out surveillance on a house or an individual: it was the chapel and the whole community.

"We have to take it that this is going on throughtout the six counties."

The RUC said it had no comment to make on the matter.
