Sex shop owner is fined over DVDs

The raided sex shop had no licence

A Belfast sex shop owner has been fined £2,000 after more than 500 videos and DVDs were seized from his premises.

Brian Hope, the owner of stores at Smithfield Square and Gresham Street, pleaded guilty to 16 charges under the video recordings act.

The merchandise, some of which was marked with an R18 classification, can only be sold in a licensed sex shop, but Mr Hope had no licence.

Earlier this month, NI's first legally operated sex shop opened near Belfast.
