Tiger kidnappers hold 87-year-old
Ambulance leaving pensioner's home
The 87-year-old and her daughter were treated for shock
An armed gang has tied up and held hostage an 87-year-old woman and her son and daughter in their Londonderry home.

It is understood the gang forced their way into the house late on Monday in the Foyle Springs area.

The daughter is believed to have been later ordered to remove cash from the post office where she works in Ballymagroarty and take it to Donegal.

No-one was injured, but the mother and daughter were treated for shock.

The house on Bantry Road remains cordoned off while forensic scientists carry out tests.

Such robberies have been an increasingly common occurrence in Northern Ireland.

They have been dubbed "tiger robberies" because of the way the beast follows its prey before it strikes.
