Police have come under attack with petrol bombs during a security operation in Lurgan, County Armagh.

Two people arrested in connection with an investigation into dissident republican activity have been released without charge. Four remain in custody.

Army bomb experts had been searching the railway line between Lurgan and Portadown. It has now reopened.

Meanwhile, a police officer was injured after police were attacked in west Belfast.

It happened as they attended a suspicious fire.

Bricks and bottles were thrown at the officers during the blaze in a derelict house on the Springfield Road.

A police officer suffered injuries to his face and hand and six PSNI vehicles were damaged.

In Lurgan, four men were arrested when undercover police stopped a car on the Antrim Road in the town on Thursday night. They were taken for questioning to Antrim police station.

Public order

Another person was arrested after a number of houses were searched on Friday. A sixth person was arrested on Saturday morning.

Two of the six arrested were released without charge on Saturday afternoon.

A security operation has been continuing near the Kilwilkee estate in the town.

Eyewitnesses said a large number of police officers in six cars were involved in the arrests.

Police have been attacked by stone throwers during the operation.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of public order offences on Friday night.

One officer suffered a minor hand injury.
