Man dies after car chase accident
Garda officer
A man has been knocked down and killed after a car pursuit involving gardai on the Londonderry-Donegal border.

The accident happened in Northern Ireland near Bridgend, just before 1000 BST on Thursday. The man who died was Tommy Long, 46, from Carnhill in Derry.

Gardai have arrested a man. The Office of the Garda Ombudsman is investigating the circumstances of the accident.

In a statement, it said the car tried to evade gardai who wanted to speak with the driver about his driving.

It said the car had crossed the border into Northern Ireland from Donegal before the crash.

Police forces from both sides of the border are involved in a follow-up operation and the PSNI is also investigating the crash.

The Buncrana Road was closed for a time at the Skeogh Link.
