Drink-driving campaign hits home
There were 24 road deaths due to drink driving last year
Police said the arrests reflect their robust approach
More than 100 motorists are being caught driving under the influence of alcohol each week in the current police crack-down campaign.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland launched their winter campaign against drink-driving a fortnight ago.

Within that two-week period, they have detected 217 drivers who were over the legal alcohol limit.

The figure also includes motorists who were unfit to drive or who refused to give a sample.

Superintendent Bill Brown, head of the PSNI Road Policing Development Branch, said the detection rate "reflected the robust approach being taken by police".

"We warned at the outset that people who drove after drinking were likely to be caught," he said.

"The fact that we are averaging around 100 detections a week shows we are delivering on that promise.

"If an irresponsible minority is determined to continue to drink and drive, they can be assured we are determined to catch them."
