Elderly woman flees house blaze
Fire engine
An 88-year-old woman has escaped injury after an arson attack on her home in County Londonderry, the police have said.

The fire at her home on Princess Drive, Magherafelt, was reported shortly after 0700 BST on Saturday.

Two wheelie bins had been placed at the back door and then set alight.

The woman escaped through the front door but extensive damage was caused to the back door and kitchen and there was smoke damage to the house.

The fire followed an earlier arson attack that damaged a garden shed at a house next door. This incident was reported at 0400 BST.
