Police have begun a murder inquiry after a pensioner's body was discovered at her home in Donaghadee, County Down.

A 36-year-old man is being questioned over the death of Tilly Campbell, 77.

Firefighters found her body at her home in Barnagh Park at about 0600 BST on Monday after they were called to the scene following reports of a fire.

A detective said they were following a "definite line of inquiry". He also said police patrols in the area had been stepped up.

DCI Sean Wright, who is leading the investigation, said it was "vital that anyone who knows what happened to come forward and talk to us".

"I would like to assure the community that there is a dedicated team of detectives committed to this investigation, following a definite line of inquiry," he added.

A police spokeswoman said detectives who were trying to piece together Tilly's last movements wanted to speak to anyone who had seen her on Sunday.

Detectives have called for anyone who was in the area of Barnagh Park and Cannyreagh Road between 0200 BST and 0600 BST to contact them.
