Police cordoned off the scene following the crash
A man and a woman have been killed in a car crash in County Antrim.

A BMW and a Renault Clio were involved in the head-on collision on the Ballybogey Road on the outskirts of Portrush at about 1235 BST.

Jason Worthington, 36, of Grove Road, Kells, near Ballymena, and Linda Hunter, 34, of Ransevyn Park in Whitehead, were travelling in the Clio.

A third person, the BMW driver, is critically ill with abdominal injuries and fractures.

He has been transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast for treatment.

The police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the accident or who saw either of the vehicles to contact them.

Inspector Andy Lemon said: "I would like to appeal for anyone who may have been on the Ballybogey Road either coming from Portrush or from Ballybogey or who may have seen either of these two vehicles - a red BMW and a grey Renault Clio - in either Ballybogey or Portush... if they could contact us."

He said the road was closed from the junction with the Ballyholme Road and urged motorists to avoid the area.
