A pipe bomb has been found in the grounds of a County Tyrone police station, the police have said.

The device, described as "viable", was found in the grounds of Castlederg police station at about 1300 BST and made safe by Army bomb experts.

It is believed to have been thrown into the grounds early on Saturday. A number of items were removed for examination.

Earlier, three suspicious objects found in County Londonderry were declared to be hoaxes.

Residents were evacuated after an object was discovered at Mussenden Road in Articlave and Temple Bar in Castlerock.

A security alert at Freehall Park in Castlerock was also later declared a hoax, a PSNI spokesman said.

The railway line between Coleraine and Derry was closed for a time but has now reopened.

A police spokesman said it appeared objects had been placed on the windowsills of the houses.
