A man has appeared in court charged with raping a woman in County Londonderry.

The woman was found in a distressed state in the early hours of Sunday morning wandering along a lane near a caravan park in Ballyronan.

Marian Struhar, 31, with an address at Lindsayville in Ballyronan, was charged with her rape.

He spoke only to confirm his name, but a police officer said he believed he could connect him with the charge.

Questioned by a defence solicitor, the detective confirmed that the accused had denied the charge during interviews.

During the hearing at Dungannon Magistrates Court on Wednesday, the accused was remanded in custody to appear again next week.
