Three Belfast men accused of attacking a doorman in the city on Saturday have been remanded in custody.

The doorman was assaulted outside the Bridge House bar on Bedford Street.

Brian Bratty, 34, from Castlerobin Road in the Belvoir estate, was charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH) and causing an affray.

Mark McKelvey, 23, Ballycoan Road, and Alan Lowry, 24, from Castlerobin Road are charged with aiding and abetting GBH and causing an affray.

All three appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court on Monday.

A PSNI detective told the court he believed he could connect all three to the charges.

However, a solicitor representing Mr Bratty and Mr Lowry said his clients "strenuously contested" the charges against them.

Magistrate Ken Nixon remanded all three in custody and ordered them to appear before the same court on 7 August.

The victim, who suffered serious injuries in the attack, is in a stable condition in hospital.
