SF man denies assaulting police
Fra McCann, Sinn Fein
Councillor Fra McCann has denied the charges
A Sinn Fein councillor has been remanded on bail on charges of assaulting two police officers.

Fra McCann, of Belfast Falls district, denied assault, disorderly behaviour, obstructing police and resisting an officer on 10 June.

Belfast Magistrates Court heard the offences relate to an incident in Divis Street when police were attempting to restrain a woman suspected of robbery.

A defence solicitor said the charges would be strongly contested.

He said that a large number of witnesses still had to be interviewed.

Mr McCann was remanded on bail for a month.
