Police cordon off the field where the men were attacked
Two men have been injured in a sectarian assault in Antrim, police have said.

The 26-year-old and 17-year-old were having a barbecue near the Newpark Estate in the town when they were assaulted by up to five men.

The men were attacked at about 2300 BST on Friday.

The 17-year-old was treated for puncture wounds, but police said it was not known what sort of weapon was used to inflict the injuries.

None of the injuries the men sustained are believed to be life threatening.

Police in Antrim have appealed for anyone with information about the attack, which happened in an area known locally as the donkey field, to contact them.

Samuel Dunlop, the DUP mayor of Antrim, said that it was normally a quiet area.

"It is reasonably peaceful and there is never any bother," he said.

"No matter what the attack was and who it was on I totally condemn it. Nobody has the right to be attacking anybody else."
