A Belfast man has appeared in court charged with causing the death of his girlfriend by dangerous driving.

Conall McAuley, 20, from Malone Avenue, is also accused of causing grievous bodily harm to another passenger in the car through dangerous driving.

The charges relate to an accident early on Sunday 4 June when a car collided with a skip at Windsor Park, Belfast.

The city's magistrates court was told he was driving without insurance or a licence and with a false number plate.

The 18-year-old girl who died has been named as Ashley Crowhurst of Dublin Road in Antrim.

She was a back seat passenger in the car. Another man was injured in the crash.

Mr McAuley's solicitor said that his client had raised factors during police interviews which, he said, played a substantial role in the accident.

Mr McAuley was granted bail subject to certain conditions.
