A man is due to appear in court charged with the attempted murder of leading loyalist Mark Haddock.
The 37-year-old, who remains seriously ill, was shot six times in the Doagh Road area of Newtownabbey, County Antrim, on Tuesday.
The attack took place at Mossley Orange Hall after he got out of his car.
Police said the man charged was arrested during searches in Belfast on Saturday. He is due to appear before a magistrate in the city on Monday.
A second man arrested on Friday in connection with the shooting has been released without charge.
Police would like to speak to anyone who noticed a blue Renault Clio, registration RBZ 9222, in the Doagh Road area on Monday or Tuesday of last week.
The car was later found burned out at Tynan Close in Monkstown.
