Board's threat at stormy meeting
A special needs class
The board wanted more time to consult with special needs teachers
The South Eastern Education and Library Board has postponed a decision on cutting special needs provisions.

Board members voted not to put through the multi-million pound cost-cutting measures because they wanted more time to consult with teachers.

Dozens of protestors crowded into the meeting and, at one stage, board members threatened to call the police.

Nipsa spokesman Brian Mulholland said he could not understand this as "there was no disruption" at the meeting.

"I think it's fair to say that the public asserted themselves and made sure that the board members were aware of their opinions," he said.

"There was a threat to call the police and have them removed.

"There was no reason for that as there was no disruption and it was perfectly reasonable for the public to be there to hear what exactly board members were going to do to children."
