Fire crews were attacked at the burning building
A fire crew has been attacked by youths with bricks and bottles in County Londonderry.

The firefighters were attending the scene of a suspected arson attack at a farm building on Whitehouse Road, Coshquin, at 2200 BST on Wednesday.

Martin Jeffrey from the Fire and Rescue Service said his crew could have been seriously injured.

"When we try to extinguish a fire and we come under attack, it can feel a bit sickening," he said.

Mr Jeffrey said the attack happened as the crew was leaving the scene.

"As we withdrew, one of the firefighters got hit on his helmet which was subsequently found to be split," he said.

"He is quite shaken up but, thankfully, his helmet saved him from what could have been a serious injury."
