Almost 800 drivers were caught committing motoring offences during a bank holiday police operation.
Operation Roadsafe, which lasted from last Friday until Monday, targeted drink-drivers, speeders and other reckless drivers.
Of the 792 drivers detected committing offences, 231 were speeding and 120 driving carelessly.
Chief Inspector Ken Pennington said it was amazing some drivers continued to disregard basic road safety rules.
"Drivers should heed speed limits, wear their seatbelt, and drive with care and consideration for other road users," Mr Pennington said.
"They should never do anything that could impair their ability to drive safely.
"These are simple rules, and if everyone abided by them, we would see a considerable drop in deaths and injuries on Northern Ireland's roads."
The police operation included the use of the PSNI helicopter.
As well as speeding and careless driving, police caught nine drivers for dangerous driving, 19 for drink/drug driving, 192 for seat belt offences, 43 for no insurance and 14 for driving whilst disqualified.
Officers also recorded a further 163 offences.
In a police operation carried out on the previous bank holiday weekend at the end of April police detected 707 drivers for offences.
