A young woman has been seriously injured in a road traffic accident in Newry in County Down.

The incident took place in Patrick Street at about 0220 BST on Sunday.

The young woman and a friend were walking home at the time. As they were crossing the road, one was struck by a red Toyota Avensis.

The car was found at Michael Mallon Park a short time later. Police say they spoke to the driver at the scene and are continuing their enquiries.

Meanwhile, one man has been injured in a crash involving three cars on the Harbour Highway in Larne, County Antrim.
