Fire crews tackle mountain blaze
Firefighters battled for hours on a gorse fire near Rostrevor
The Fire and Rescue Service has dealt with a gorse fire in the Mourne mountains in County Down.

Fire crews had to wait until Saturday morning to access the fire outside Annalong, near Newcastle.

Earlier, 30 firefighters battled for four hours to put out a gorse fire on Newtown Road, outside Rostrevor, which had spread over a 10 mile area.

Neil McGrath from the Fire and Rescue Service said that the dry weather had not helped the fire crews.

"The conditions are very dry at the minute," he said.

"Friday was a good day, Saturday is expected to be the same so it looks like we could end up being very busy again."

The Fire and Rescue Service have again reminded the public to make sure they put out any fires and take care when smoking.
