Police warn on 'indecent images'
Mobiles are being used to circulate indecent images among children
Police are investigating reports that mobile phones are being used to circulate indecent images among schoolchildren in the Ballymena area.

A PSNI spokesman said their Child Abuse and Rape Enquiry Unit was investigating the origins of the images.

Secondary school head teachers have been asked to warn pupils that possession or distribution of such images was a criminal offence.

Superintendent Terry Shevlin said this was done during assemblies on Thursday.

"This is a very live investigation and for legal reasons, a sensitive investigation, potentially because of the age of the person who may be involved in this image," he said.

"Our concern is that it is a child under 16 and this brings it into very serious criminal offences."
