Pair arrested over hammer attack
Foyleside Shopping Centre
Dozens of shoppers witnessed the attack take place
Two men have been arrested in connection with an attack on a man in a busy shopping centre in Londonderry.

The victim was beaten with hammers and a crowbar in the Foyleside complex at about 1830 BST on Thursday.

Dozens of shoppers were nearby when the attack happened. The injured man was taken to hospital after the assault.

Centre manager Des Farrell said it was an appalling attack. He said it was lucky that it happened on the complex where security personnel could help.

"The one upside is that it happened in Foyleside where there are security staff and CCTV footage," he said.

"We were able to reduce the length of the attack, render first aid straight away and call an ambulance, which was with us within minutes."
