Police have said an alert caused by the discovery of a suspicious object in Londonderry was an "elaborate hoax".
The Army carried out a controlled explosion
The Army carried out a controlled explosion on the object in the Bogside area. It was found in bushes at Fahan Street at about 1040 GMT on Thursday.
Residents, many of them elderly, from nearby Joseph's Place were advised to stay at the front of their houses.
PSNI Inspector Michael Winters said the alert had caused inconvenience to residents and motorists.
There was some disruption to traffic at the Rossville Street end of Fahan Street, which links the Diamond to the Bogside, as a result of the alert.
