Man assaulted behind city church

Injured man was taken to hospital

A man is in hospital with extensive facial injuries after an attack in Londonderry, police have said.

The attack happened on Sunday night in the Galliagh area of the city, but police have only just released details.

It is believed he was assaulted by up to three men at the rear of St Joseph's Church, known locally as the White Chapel, at about 2100 BST.

It is thought the man will be in hospital for some time. Police are appealing for witness to come forward.
