Friends and family of missing County Down man Martin Kelly have carried out searches between Belfast and Holywood.

Martin Kelly, 21, from Holywood, went missing on New Year's Day after going with friends to Pat's Bar in Garmoyle Street in the docks area.

The plumber and part-time barman stayed on after his friends left and was seen leaving the bar alone at 1910 GMT.

A crowd of 300 people released balloons with notes for him before searching between the docks and Holywood.

After the crowd of about 300 released balloons containing messages for him they staged a walk to Holywood.

Earlier on Sunday, police used dogs and a helicopter, as well as boats, to search from Dee Street in the east of the city to the Holywood Exchange.

His family has said the police could do more to find him.

Martin's mother Karen said the family deserved to be treated better and that police could do more to find him.

"A missing person is a member of a very, very loving family and that family really should be treated, I think, with a bit more compassion," she said.

"We were not treated with that compassion and that is why we had to come out today, to try and get this search to happen."

The family has said police divers spent just an hour searching the water and have not returned, despite frequent pleas. They also said CCTV footage had not been fully examined.
