Bomb alert at jail declared hoax
Maghaberry prison
An alert at the jail last month caused disruption
A suspect device found in Maghaberry prison near Lisburn in County Antrim has been declared a hoax.

The Prison Service said a security alert at the top security jail had ended after an operation by Army bomb disposal experts.

No inmates were moved during the alert, which began just before 1700 GMT.

A warning at the jail last month caused huge disruption, with staff unable to get to work and visits cancelled. However, a search found nothing.

At that time, a Belfast newsroom was given a warning that there was a device in a bag of grit.

An Army bomb disposal team and prison officers with sniffer dogs carried out that search.
