Ten buses have been damaged by vandals at Ballymena in County Antrim.

Damage estimated at £50,000 was caused to the buses, parked in the town's bus depot, early on Wednesday morning.

Five teenagers arrested in connection with the incident have been released pending further enquiries. Translink said services were not affected.

"Thankfully incidents such as these are rare; however we vigorously condemn mindless vandalism such as this," District Manager Sam Todd said.

"We were able to rely on the resources of neighbouring bus stations this morning so that no services were affected.

"We would like to commend the PSNI for acting so promptly and we are currently assisting them with their enquiries."
