Two people were in the BMW car
A 30-year-old pedestrian has been killed in a road accident involving a single car in east Belfast. One person has been arrested.

It happened shortly after 0800 GMT on the Upper Newtownards Road near the Lidl store.

Two people were in the BMW car, but their injuries are not serious.

Fire Service senior divisional officer Jim McCallum said two fire appliances and a specialist rescue unit responded to the incident.

"On arrival, the crews found the accident involved a single car with one 30-year-old male trapped under the vehicle," he said.

"Using rescue equipment, they released him from under the vehicle, but unfortunately he was found to be a fatality at the scene."

Meanwhile, there has been a serious accident on the main Caledon to Armagh Road involving a lorry and a car.
