Police in Enniskillen have begun an investigation after a five-year-old boy was admitted to hospital with a serious head injury.

The child was taken to the Erne Hospital after he was seen falling in the playground of Mullinaskea Primary School at about 1430 BST on Friday.

It is believed the injury may have been caused by a pellet from an airgun.

The boy has been transferred to the Royal Hospital in Belfast, where he is said to be in a critical condition.

Police have urged anyone who noticed any person or vehicle in the area and the roads around the school between 1300 and 1500 BST to come forward to the incident room at Enniskillen.

The school is situated on the main road between Enniskillen and Tempo.
