Cows become stranded in various ways
The Coast Road in Larne in County Antrim has been reopened after firefighters rescued a cow stranded on a cliff face.

Station Officer Archie McKay said the operation was quite dangerous.

"We requested the assistance of the USPCA and also had our specialist rescue team mobilised from Belfast," he said.

"We were able to determine that it was possible that the animal could make its way down."

He added: "A couple of firefighters went up the steep slope and were able to move some bushes out of the road and the animal fortunately came down.

"It was an unusual day - but that is the nature of the job."
