A 28-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged over a burglary at the home of two pensioners in County Armagh.

Two brothers, aged 70 and 75, were attacked by a gang who ransacked their home in Loughgall on Wednesday.

John Edward Joseph Mongan, of Woodside Walk, Dunmurry, was accused of causing actual bodily harm to David Walker.

He was also charged with stealing suits valued at £200 and having an offensive weapon - a cudgel.

Questioned by a defence solicitor, a detective inspector told the court that the accused had denied both charges.

He was remanded in custody to appear by video link on 6 December before Armagh Magistrates Court.

Mr Mongan is further charged with unrelated motoring offences.
